3 Floyd's Brewpub

Sarah says for 3 FLOYD'S it's really about being completely and totally authentic.

Metal music, tatoos, piercings, a showing of some bad Mrs. Frankenstein movie, good beer, really good food and FANTASTIC SERVICE.  Oh - and Murals that look like they jump right from their funky beer labels.    Everybody knows 3 Floyds is fantastic, as is apparent from the line waiting outside to be seated on a cold Saturday night.

My husband has become a bit of a beer geek in the last couple of years.   He loves trying the new and adventurous combinations that local breweries, little independent guys dish out.   Three Floyds is a local brewer in Munster IN and they certainly have a unique spirit.    So for Valentines Day I surprised my husband to a night out.    I surprised him to an hour drive to wait in an hour long line to eat in a brewpub and then drive an hour home.  AND WE BOTH HAD THE BEST TIME!

I am not a tattoo junkie, I have no piercings - not even ears anymore, and I'm kinda not into the "heavy" rock kind of scene.   I didn't feel out of place at all.   And the waitstaff was FANTASTIC, albeit inordinatly tatooed.   This is a small spot,  we were never rushed to move along to make room for the folks standing in line. This is a pub - they encourage you to have another - savor your meal, enjoy the brew.

The food on the menu was orginal and unique featuring a scotch egg small plate (delish by the way) and fantastic sandwich or full pasta plate options - hearth baked pizza too.   Who do they have in the kitchen?  I don't know, but I wish I had taken the time to find out.   This chef could go head to head in a "brewpub" iron chef and win against any of those overpublished cooks on the food network.   And I certainly didn't pay downtown Chicago prices for it.

My husband and I each had three beers.   We each shared a small plate, had our own large plates, and shared a dessert and our bill didn't go over $70.00!  I left a big tip to make up for feeling like I had cheated someone out of their due share.

ITS IN MUNSTER INDIANA!  And the brewpub is in a warehouse district.   And they play hard core music and bizarre sci fi movies instead of sports on their TV's.    The walls look like an adult comic strip (adult themes FOR SURE).  They don't take reservations.  It's not a place I would take my 6 year old.  But that's not the point.  And that's not what they are trying to be.

Everyone was extremely friendly (Munster IN style) and I had a great time in a unique spot that has held onto or grown through it's unique spirit.

3 cheers to 3 Floyd's Brewpub for being AUTHENTIC.   And thanks for being so nice to a middle aged couple without any tatoos.

I actually have taken my children there (less than 6) plenty of times. It's a great pit-stop on the way home from apple/pumpkin picking in NW Indiana. The beer is fantastic, the food is fantastic. The service is great, the decor and atmosphere work perfectly to set up the 3 Floyds vibe. It is awesome. However, their attitude towards growlers needs to go. I homebrew and pay particular attention to cleaning and sanitizing, so imagine my surprise when I brought a 3 Floyds growler back to the bar to be refilled with some of their delicious beer and the bartender turned me down saying that they don't refill growlers! I asked why and he said that they didn't want their beer going into dirty growlers. As a last plea I asked 'What about the environment?' the bartender responded 'It'll still be there'.

Growlers are great, and environmentally-friendly ways to enjoy beer from microbrews. Needless to say, I haven't been back.

We have taken our 5 year old to Three Floyd's for lunch a few times and she has always enjoyed it. I wouldn't hesitate at all to bring a well behaved child here. "Well behaved" being the key phrase. The chef is the former chef from Blackbird, in Chicago. The food has never been better.

The food is phenomenal and the beer is even better. Great article....you really described the place perfectly. I encourage everyone to go. The pizza is awesome....the Mac and cheese .....the white bean soup with pickled fennel and smoked trout is the shizzle and the homemade jerky and pork skins can't be beat. You get the point. This place isn't normal....just like their beer!!! #1 place to eat and drink.....truly awesome!!!!!
